It’s no secret around these parts that Lunenburg is a gem on the province’s south shore. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is once again being recognized on the world stage with some other big names.
Lunenburg, has been named one of 16 Beautiful Coastal Towns Around The World by Travel + Leisure. The publication is one of the most highly regarded in the travel industry.
Lunenburg is on traditional Mi’kmaq territory. The Mi’kmaq call the town’s location E’se’katik or “place of clams.” The British founded what we know today as Lunenburg in 1753 and Travel + Leisure says it still has its historic feel.
The Town is one of the few in North America designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Travel + Leisure ranks Lunenburg up there with towns in Tunisia, Montenegro, Spain, Portugal, Greece and more.
