#1 – Sandy Point Lighthouse – Shelburne
Sandy Point Lighthouse is located near the mouth of Shelburne Harbour. The lighthouse provides the perfect opportunity for photos at anytime, but catch the tide at the right time and you can walk out. You can also collect sand dollars and shells on the white sand beach.
#2 Masstown Market – Masstown
The Masstown Market lighthouse may not be on the water, but it’s home to an interpretative centre and a winding staircase to the top where you can view the Cobequid Mountains.
Catch of The Bay Fish Market is located on the main level of the Masstown Market lighthouse. Nearby you will find their Fish Boat where you can enjoy seafood caught from the Bay of Fundy.
#3 Cape Forchu Lighthouse – Yarmouth
The Cape Forchu Lighthouse is around 10 minutes from the Town of Yarmouth. The light station stands 75 feet tall on top of volcanic rock. It has safely guided vessels coming and going from Yarmouth Harbour since 1840.
Today, it’s picturesque to explore and have your photo taken. You can bring a lunch to enjoy on the 19 acres of well groomed grounds while enjoying the salty air.
#4 – Kidston Island Lighthouse – Baddeck
This lighthouse is for the adventurous type. Yes, you can snap some photos from the wharfs in Baddeck, but if you’re a kayaker or have your own boat, travel to the lighthouse which overlooks the waters of Baddeck.
Kidston Island features a beach and walking paths for you to explore.
#5 Walton Lighthouse – Walton
The Walton Lighthouse features a small gift shop and nearby walking trails.
Walton Harbour was the busiest port in Nova Scotia in the 1950’s. The shipping declined in the 1970’s and the lighthouse was decommissioned. It was purchased by the Municipality of East Hants and declared a heritage property in 1992. It is currently maintained by the non-profit organization WADA, Walton and Area Development Association.
