After years of study, an announcement is expected Monday, March 4 to announce the establishment of passenger ferry service between Mill Cove in Bedford and Downtown Halifax.
An infrastructure announcement is scheduled for 11:00 AM at the Bedford Basin Yacht Club. In attendance will be numerous federal politicians, municipal and Halifax Transit officials.
A market and design study has been conducted and it appears the commuter dream of fast-ferries from Bedford to the downtown core is about to become a reality. The proposed service would make the trip to Downtown Halifax in only 20 minutes.
New terminals will be required in Bedford and Halifax as the proposed catamaran-style ferries are incompatible with existing infrastructure.
The project was estimated to cost about $260 million.
