Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 Returns To Halifax Harbour Tomorrow And Where It All Began For Samuel Cunard

Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 returns to Halifax Harbour tomorrow, back to where it all began for founder, Samuel Cunard.

He was born in Halifax, NS, in 1787 and took up a fascination with steam powered ships, eventually founding the Cunard Steamships Limited. This began the era of regular passenger service and mail delivery between North America and Europe. Their first ship to make the trip was Britannia in 1840 from Liverpool, England, to Halifax, NS and onto Boston, MA.

The Cunard vessels of today are not steam powered and the amenities and finishes dazzle the eye. In particular, the company’s flagship Queen Mary 2 which will be in Halifax on July 6, 2022.

She can carry 2,691 guests and a crew of 1,173. Queen Mary 2 offers gala evenings, live music, musical performances and the Captain can even marry you at sea.

Look for her upon arrival tomorrow morning 8:00am or listen for the blast of her horn upon departure at 6:00pm.
