A Man Built This Castle On Nova Scotia’s South Shore, Because His Queen Deserved To Live In A Castle

Chateau Paradis on Nova Scotia’s Southwest Cove off St. Margaret’s Bay.

If you were looking for the most romantic fairytale about love in Nova Scotia, look no further than the love that a man named Max Manger had for his wife Gigi

He supposedly built their private dwelling on Owls Head Island because his queen deserved to live in a castle. Their castle, lookout towers and all, overlooks Nova Scotia’s south shore and is named Chateau Paradis.

The castle was built on the shores of Southwest Cove off St. Margaret’s Bay. Max and Gigi were originally from Quebec and Max is reported to have been an engineer that worked at the Halifax Dockyard.

The castle was built during the 1970’s and 1980’s. Halifax’s Scotia Square underwent a major development in the 1980’s and it’s believed Max repurposed the former windows from Downtown Halifax into his build.

Gigi was reported to be a local legend in her own right hosting extravagant parties and events in the castle.

The home is located on private property and cannot be accessed by land, but can be viewed from Southwest Cove.

Sadly, Gigi passed away a number of years ago and Max more recently.
