Breton Education Centre, Coal Bowl and Men of The Deeps Go Viral

Every year Breton Education Centre in New Waterford, NS hosts The Coal Bowl Classic basketball tournament for about 10 teams across Canada.  This afternoon, the world renowned Men of The Deeps went to Breton Education Centre (BEC) and taught the teams and BEC students the words to Leon Dubinsky’s, We Rise Again.

This ensemble was assembled in one afternoon and couldn’t have gone better. To Cape Bretoner’s at home and far away it is sure to bring a tear to the eye. For an opening ceremony, planned in one afternoon, BEC, players and Men of The Deeps… BRAVO! Everyone from the soloists, the band, those controlling the lights and those who edited the video deserve a round of applause.

We can’t think of a time this song was performed so resiliently since Aselin Debison preformed it in 1999 at the coal miners rally.

This is the 38th year for the annual basketball tournament and there was no better way to have kicked it off. The performance is dedicated in the memory of Jacqueline Poirier.
