Top 8 “You Knew It Was Christmas When” List

We all have fond memories as children at Christmas. From visiting grandparents to looking through the Sears Wish Book. The following is our Top 8 “You Knew It Was Christmas When” List.

We’re always chasing the Christmas of our childhoods because you can never replace the feeling of Christmas as a child.  These 8 favourites bring back those warm feelings.

#1 Sears Wish Book

When the Sears Wish Book arrived in the mail, you truly knew that Santa was making his list and checking it twice. You would take the book and circle all of your favourite toys.

#2 When a sled was toboggan…

Every neighbourhood had it's own legendary hill. Before GT Snow Racers and even Crazy Carpets, there was the toboggan.

#3 Grandma’s Chicken Bones!

Growing up I thought the chicken bones grandma peddled on me were everywhere, but they're pretty unique to Nova Scotia and the Maritimes. Love them or hate them, no one got through Christmas without passing a dish of these.

#5 Sobey’s Star of Christmas

Our favourite Holiday commercial. The countdown until Christmas didn't begin until this commercial aired.

#6 Christmas Candle Lights

Dad would plant two of these at the end of the driveway or strap them to the bottom of the stairs to the front door.

#7 Christmas Cookies!

You probably pretended to smoke these long cookies like cigars as a kid. These tins of cookies are still handed around at parties today.

#8 Quality Street Chocolates

Everyone has their favourite, ours personally was the green triangle. You would hunt through the can until only the least favourites were left.

Pro-tip: Bulk Barn has been known to carry Quality Street, so if you want a tin full of your favourites, check them out.
