All Saints Springhill Hospital in Springhill, N.S. evacuated all of its inpatients and temporarily suspended onsite services this evening due to the presence of smoke, reportedly from a burned out motor in the hospital’s ventilation system.
The incident saw the relocation of twenty-one inpatients either to other facilities within the Northern Zone or to their homes.
Nova Scotia Health has announced the cancellation of all appointments scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024. This includes the suspension of outpatient laboratory and diagnostic imaging appointments, such as X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans, as well as all ambulatory care clinics, outpatient clinics, rehabilitation outpatient clinics, and primary health care clinics. Renal dialysis services will continue to be provided at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
Hospital officials are actively working to contact patients in order to reschedule appointments and procedures that have been affected by the closure. In the meantime, they advise anyone with emergency medical needs to call 911.
Nova Scotia Health will reassess conditions and provide updates on Tuesday, March 5, with further information to be made available on the temporary closures section of the nshealth.ca website
