Reports out of Sydney, Cape Breton are stating that social distancing got off to a rocky start this morning at Sydney Academy.
A social media post from Facebook showed a crowded school yard of students intermingling prior to the bell ringing to usher in the new school year.
A school yard full of students can be seen, most in close proximity. Many are seen not wearing masks, which would be required when they enter the school and can’t keep social distance.
Nova Scotia Buzz readers are commenting on social media that similar scenes were on display at high schools in their communities.
The Province of Nova Scotia and Public health have said that mandatory masks for higher grades, hand washing and social distancing, including increased space between desks will keep students safe in school.
In the days leading up to the return to school, the Nova Scotia Teacher’s Union had been stating schools weren’t ready for students to return and had asked the province for an extra two days to prepare. That request was denied.
