Sobeys Files Report Confirming Privacy Breach, But Is Still Hush Hush With Public

In a media release on Monday, November 7, Empire Company, owner of brands such as Sobeys, Lawtons, Foodland, Needs and others said they were suffering from “IT systems issues.” The issue had been plaguing the company since Friday, November 4.

A new law went into effect this past September in Quebec which requires companies who are victims of a data leak to report it to the Province.

According to Le Journal de Montreal, exactly that has happened in relation to the apparent cyber attack at Empire Company.

“We recently received a privacy incident statement from Sobeys. We have started the analysis of this file and we cannot comment further “, Emmanuelle Giraud, of the Commission of Access to Information of Quebec told Le Journal de Montreal.

A privacy incident would infer that personal information has been compromised, but Empire will not reply to media requests to confirm or deny.

As of today, most of the company’s pharmacies are operational again. “We thank you for your understanding and look forward to serving you in our stores.” said the company on their website.
