Monday Night NHL To Air Exclusively On Amazon Prime In Canada

In a groundbreaking move for sports broadcasting in Canada, Amazon, Rogers Communications, and the National Hockey League (NHL) have announced a new partnership to stream Monday night NHL games exclusively on Prime Video. This marks the first time the NHL has partnered with a digital-only service for an exclusive national broadcast in Canada.

Starting with the 2024/25 NHL season, Prime Monday Night Hockey will offer all national regular season Monday night games in English for two consecutive seasons. This package will be available exclusively to Prime members in Canada and aims to bring the game to more fans across the country on more devices.

Colette Watson, President of Rogers Sports & Media, highlighted the evolution of the media landscape and the success of their partnership with the NHL. “Rogers’ partnership with the NHL has been incredibly successful and integral to Sportsnet’s leadership as the number one sports media brand in Canada,” Watson said. “We’re really pleased to work with Amazon to continue to grow the game and help hockey fans watch games when and where they want.”

Magda Grace, head of Prime Video for Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, added value this deal brings to Prime members. “With Prime Monday Night Hockey, we’re offering our customers even more from their Prime membership,” said Grace. “We’re committed to driving more innovation for fans as we bring the NHL into more Canadian homes on Monday nights than ever before.”

David Proper, NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Media & International Strategy, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership’s potential to reach new audiences. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Amazon and Rogers on this project,” Proper remarked. “Amazon has a strong track record of presenting sports in a highly innovative and viewer-friendly manner. This partnership continues our goal to serve hockey fans and reach new audiences with exciting NHL content on a multitude of streaming services.”

This announcement builds on previous collaborations, including the launch of Sportsnet on Prime Video Channels in Canada at the beginning of the 2023/24 season and a 12-year agreement between Rogers and the NHL initiated in November 2013. Since 2021, the NHL has also utilized Amazon Web Services to deliver enhanced in-game analytics and video highlights.
