In a Jeopardy! game that saw the return of host Ken Jennings, it also left an entire province and country on the edge of their seats. Nova Scotia’s hometown girl, Mattea Roach won her fifth Jeopardy! game. This solidified her entry to the Jeopardy Tournament of Champions where even more prize money is on the table.
In conversation with Ken Jennings, Mattea thanked Brian Casey who was her debate coach in grades 8 through 12 at Sacred Heart School of Halifax. Casey would tell Mattea and her teammate it was showtime before big rounds of debate and that’s what she was thinking before her games last week.
In the first Jeopardy round, Mattea wasn’t lucky enough to land the Daily Double. The Double Jeopardy round saw Mattea’s opponents land the Daily Doubles. Her competitor Michael gained $5,000 on his.
Going into Final Jeopardy Mattea, who had $10,200 was trailing her competitor Michael by $2,400. Luckily, Halifax’s hometown girl pulled it off.
Mattea was the only contestant to come up with the correct response (see below) and with a modest wager of $2,400 she ended winning in her fifth appearance with $12,600. Her five day total is now $117,200 and counting.
