Halifax Titanic Experience Sinks Before It Even Begins

Reports are Ontario businessman David van Velzen was in shock when he found out his Titanic development renderings proposed for Niagara Falls, Ontario were being floated in Halifax.

His development proposal was to see a property housing an old arena in Niagara Falls be developed into the “Titanic Experience” a museum and tourist attraction.

In 2017, van Velzen said the museum would be the only one in Canada and the northeast U.S. dedicated solely to the Titanic, or at least he thought until last week when the idea was floated in Halifax

Hotel developer Clark Squires shared renderings of the development on LinkedIn saying a replica of Titanic was proposed to be built including 150 hotel rooms in Halifax.

According to van Velzen talked to Squires about the mix-up. Squires said the renderings had been sent to him as part of a pitch deck by a Toronto developer before the pandemic. It was also reported that Squires told van Velzen that he will not be building anything Titanic related in Halifax.

It appears Halifax’s chance of having a Titanic development has sailed.
