About a month ago, Nova Scotia telecommunications company Eastlink, supplied notice to its cable television customers, stating as of June 27, 2023 customers would be losing access to 33 television channels including Global OnDemand.
It would appear that Eastlink has indeed cut channels such as HGTV, W Network and Showcase and customers who wish to cancel their service with Eastlink are having difficulties contacting Eastlink.
On Twitter, users are posting saying they have waited hours trying to reach Eastlink representatives to cancel service, but cannot get through.
The channels have been removed in a carriage dispute with Corus Entertainment, owner of the disputed television networks.
“Eastlink doesn’t want to pay what these channels are worth anymore,” said Troy Reeb, executive vice-president of broadcast networks for Corus in an interview with Global News.
The television service landscape has been dominated for years by Eastlink and Bell Aliant. Today, new competitors are entering the market such as Halifax’s Purple Cow Internet.
