Clint and Pat Lettice have a weekly routine where Pat plays the couples Scratch N’ Win tickets and Clint double checks them for possible winners.
Thank goodness Clint double checks them or the Sydney Mines, N.S. couple would have missed out on a top prize worth $1.5 million. The couple had won on their Super Set For Life ticket.
“I looked at the ticket and saw nothing on the first three games and got to the next one and I could see there was three of the symbols there and I said, ‘Pat, did you see this?” Clint said. “’I don’t believe it,’ she said, ‘How did I miss that?’”
To make sure they weren’t misreading the ticket, the couple called their son to double check it.
“Our youngest son lives next door, so I said, ‘Call Timmy and tell him to come over and make sure we aren’t imagining things,’” Clint said. “He came in and said, ‘What am I looking at?’ and right away, he saw it.”
The top prize for the Super Set for Life Scratch’N Win ticket is one of two options: $100,000 a year for 20 years or a lump sum payment of $1.5 million. Clint and Pat opted to receive the lump sum payment.
The couple plans to use their winnings to pay off all three of their children’s mortgages and help their family as much as they can. They also intend to purchase a new vehicle for themselves and take a European river cruise that has been on their bucket list for many years.
As soon as the weather warms up, the couple is planning a catered pool party for all three of their children, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
“We wish we could have brought them all here with us today,” Pat said. “But we’ll all celebrate together at home.”
Clint purchased the winning Super Set for Life ticket at Brewer’s Convenience in North Sydney, N.S. The retailer will receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
