Calm Before The Storm: Winter Storm Warnings And Watches For Cape Breton And Eastern Nova Scotia

Man clearing or removing snow with a snowblower on a snowy road detail.

It is April. We live in the Maritimes so a bit of snow isn’t out of the ordinary, but parts of Cape Breton can expect to get walloped tonight. There are also special weather statements issued for Guysborough and Antigonish County.

Richmond and Cape Breton Counties – winter storm warning issued: You can expect to receive 20cm – 30cm of snow beginning tonight around midnight with winds gusting to 90km/h. It’s expected to taper off Sunday Afternoon.

Victoria County and Inverness County, south of Mabou – snowfall warning issued: You can expect to receive 15-20cm of snow tonight into Sunday afternoon. Strong northeasterly winds may reduce visibility.

Inverness County, Mabou and north – special weather statement issued: You can expect 10cm of snow and possibly higher. Maximum wind gusts will be 70-80km/h. Time span is tonight into Sunday afternoon. There is still some uncertainty with the track of the system which will affect the snowfall accumulations. If the track is closer to shore then snowfall amounts could be greater and warnings may be required.

Antigonish and Guysborough County – special weather statement issued: Snow and strong winds expected tonight into Sunday. Amounts are 10cm or possibly higher. Maximum wind gusts will be 70-80km/h. If the storm tracks closer to the coast, snowfall amounts could be greater and warning may be required.
