In an emotional speech, Premier Stephen McNeil has announced that he won’t re-offer in the next election and is stepping down as Premier. He will remain in office until a new leader is selected.
“It has been a real privilege, now it’s time for someone else.” said McNeil
“I’m not tired of being Premier, I’m tired.” he joked to reporters when asked about his reason for stepping down.
The Premier said he had planned to make the announcement in April, but then COVID-19 hit.
McNeil said that Province is preparing for a second wave (of COVID-19) and he’ll be here during that time. He reassured Nova Scotians he’s not leaving before the party runs a leadership race.
This is a developing story, more to come.
