Air Canada Flight From Halifax Received Threat Midflight On Route To New York

Air Canada flight 8657 completed a safe landing at Newark Liberty International Airport on February 19, despite facing a security scare during its journey from Halifax Stanfield International Airport. Although the flight encountered a delay of ninety minutes, as recorded by FlightStats, it landed without any harm to passengers or crew.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey was alerted to a threat concerning the flight around midday on Monday, but confirmed that the aircraft touched down safely at Newark Liberty International Airport with all passengers disembarking safely.

Following the plane’s arrival, the Port Authority Police Department, aided by its canine unit, conducted an inspection of the aircraft, declaring it secure approximately an hour later. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Images shared by a passenger on social media showed emergency response vehicles positioned on the runway as the plane arrived.

Air Canada has yet to issue a comment regarding the incident.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada, determined that the event did not require an investigation on their part, categorizing it as a matter of security rather than a transportation incident.
