This Historic Nova Scotian Donair Company Has A New Donair Product On The Market – It’s A Must Try

Peter Kamoulakos immigrated to Canada with his family from Greece. The family had a love for gyros from their homeland and went on to share that love by opening a pizza and gyro shop in Bedford, NS in the 1970’s

The Greek recipe wasn’t quite right for Haligonians so Peter tweaked it and came up with today’s traditional donair. Ground beef, secret spices and a sweet sauce. But, where did the name donair come from? It was apparently made up by Peter when someone asked what the dish was called. He looked at the meat rotisserie machine and “DONER” was printed on it.  From that point on the former traditional gyro had born the legend of Donair.

Peter went on to open Mr. Donair Ltd. a supplier of donair products for pizza shops and restaurants in the 1980’s. Peter passed away in the early 90’s and his brother John sold the company to Tony’s Meats of Antigonish, NS in 2005.

Today, Mr. Donair is introducing a brand new Donair product. “The Original” Mr. Donair Stick which is made right here in Nova Scotia. It is the first ever shelf-stable donair meat stick of its kind.

The Donair Stick is made of 100% Canadian Beef, donair spices and has 5 grams of protein per stick making it the perfect on-the-go Canadian snack.

This new product expands “The Original” Mr. Donair’s retail line which is available across the country and includes, sliced donair meat, donair kits, donair pizza, donair sausages, donair dunkers and donair sauce.

“The Original” Donair Stick is available in Atlantic Canada at Needs Convenience & Sobeys stores and in Alberta at Co-op stores.
