Sobeys Installing Plexiglass Barriers At Checkouts

Sobeys announced that it will be installing plexiglass barriers at its checkouts across Canada. Through their parent company, Empire Co. it was announced that they will be installed at locations throughout the country and in the majority of their sister brands as well.

Installation has already began on the shields and work will continue around the clock to get them into stores. They will not be in every store immediately, but Sobeys says they are installing them as quickly as we can.

They will also be installing floor markers that instruct customers to maintain a 2 meter social distance from other customers at the checkouts.

Sobeys is also doing the following:

  • Employees are washing their hands every fifteen minutes.
  • They have added extra resources to the frontline, enabling cashiers to wipe down common areas even more often.
  • They are reducing store hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the time being, to support extra sanitation protocols and allow extra time for replenishment of shelves.
