An iconic Cape Breton institution is being put on the market Monday. The Cabot Group with Remax Nova has posted a 360 degree tour (see below) of Rita MacNeil’s former Tea Room.
The property, located at 8077 East Bay Highway in Big Pond Centre, includes 190 acres of land and comes with deeded access to the Bras d’Or Lake with a boat launch.
“This is a true treat and a pleasure to be listing this property. It has been an icon of Cape Breton for so long.” said Terry Campbell of The Cabot Group.
The original building was a 1930’s school house and this is where Rita started her tea room. According to her family’s realtor, she used a Zeller’s credit card to launch her tea room.
Commercial water and plumbing is now tucked away as it has been transformed into a residential house for her family.
Matt Minglewood, The Men of the Deeps, JP Cormier, The Barra MacNeils and many names from Cape Breton music have stopped in along with hundreds of tour buses over the years.
