Halifax Harbour is set to host an exhilarating event this summer with the ROCKWOOL Canada Sail Grand Prix. Next week when the world’s top sailing teams will converge on Nova Scotia for a thrilling weekend of high-speed racing and fun activities.
The event promises to be an action-packed experience for fans. From meeting athletes in the fan zone on the Halifax waterfront to visiting the historic Bluenose II and HMCS Oriole, which will be docked in front of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic all weekend, there’s something for everyone. Attendees can also enjoy watching the SailGP Inspire Racing and weCANfoil demos, along with numerous activities planned throughout the city.
The competition features ten national teams from Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, France, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, and the United States. These teams will race turbocharged F50 catamarans, reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h. The stadium-style racing will take place between Georges Island and the MacDonald Bridge, offering fans an up-close view of the action when the races kick off at 4:00 PM ADT on both Saturday and Sunday.

Events will start around May 28 with practice racing in the harbour on May 28 and 29, and other events taking place on May 30 and 31. The SailGP tech site will be located at King’s Wharf in Dartmouth.
This event marks a significant milestone as it’s the first time the Canada SailGP Team will race in home waters. Driver Phil Robertson expressed his excitement, saying, “It’s going to be amazing to race in Canada for the first time, in front of Canadian fans who have supported the team since inception. We can’t wait to get to Halifax!”
To accommodate the event, the Salter Lot on the Waterfront will not be available for parking the week of May 27, as it is being used by the SailGP team. Additionally, ferry service (both the Alderney and Woodside) will be closed during the races. Shuttles will be set up to take people to and from Dartmouth during race times.
An incredible lineup of FREE live entertainment will be staged each evening at the Argyle Street Shore Party from May 31 to June 2, from 6:30-10:00 PM. Each evening will feature marquee artists including Ria Mae, Neon Dreams, Adam Baldwin, and Rankin MacInnis and the Broken Reeds. Restaurant patios along Argyle Street are fully licensed, and the street will be closed to vehicle traffic.
