Halifax’s sole roller derby league, the Anchor City Rollers, is commemorating its 13th year of action-packed skating this month with a festive mash-up scrimmage. The celebratory game, coined as the “Birthday Bash-Up”, is set for Saturday, August 12, at the Mayflower Curling Club, 3000 Monaghan Drive.

The event will see Anchor City Roller skaters in a thrilling contest against each other, as well as roller derby athletes from across the Maritimes, creating a significant representation of the region’s best talents. Participating teams hail from communities including Windsor, Sydney, Saint John, Fredericton, and more.

The Birthday Bash-Up is scheduled to kick off at 3 pm, with doors opening at 2:30 pm. Spectators can enjoy the fierce competition and roller derby excitement for a ticket price of just $10 at the door. To encourage the younger generation’s participation and exposure to this sport, children aged 12 and under are granted free entry.

The Anchor City Rollers, established in 2010, have played a crucial role in promoting and fostering the roller derby scene in Halifax.
