UPDATE: Halifax St. Patrick’s Day Parade Cancelled

UPDATE FROM THE HALIFAX ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE SOCIETY:

It is with sadness and disappointment that we announce the cancellation of the 2020 Halifax St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Given the circumstances surrounding public gatherings and COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event, originally scheduled for Sunday, March 15, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. We feel it is in the best interest of public health and safety to do so. We know that this is disappointing news for many but hope everyone can understand the importance of taking extra precautions at this time.

The flag raising scheduled for Friday, March 13 at Grand Parade at 12:00 p.m. is also cancelled.

Although many of us won’t be together this St. Patrick’s Day week in Halifax, we hope you still find time and creative ways to celebrate and recognize St. Patrick’s Day and the wonderful country of Ireland. And of course, we will all meet again in 2021.

Yours in green,
The Halifax St. Patrick’s Day Parade Society

Many St. Patrick’s Day events around the world, including the most Irish country of them all, are being cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.

The St. Patrick’s Day parade in Dublin, Ireland’s largest, with upwards of 500,000 annual attendees will not be happening this year. Parades in The United States’s most Irish city, Boston, have been axed this year as well.

As of March 10th, the Halifax St. Patrick’s Day Parade is still happening in Downtown Halifax. The parade happens Saturday March 15th at 1pm.

This is the thirteenth year for the current Halifax parade, but St. Patrick’s Day parades have dated back to 1919 in the city.

The route begins on Terminal Road and marches along Lower Water Street, finishing at Historic Properties.  This area was once known as Irishtown.

The parade is free and a great event to bring the family to. Bring a donation for the Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank, as they’ll be collected along the route.

Immediately following the parade, join the after party at The Lower Deck in Historic Properties.
