The USS Gerald R. Ford is on its maiden voyage and departed Norfolk, Virginia on October 4. The nuclear powered aircraft carrier, and likely the NATO strike group sailing with it will visit the Port of Halifax this Friday.
Details are scarce as to what time the carrier will arrive and when its departure is scheduled, but preparations are underway in Halifax for its arrival.
The USS Gerald R. Ford is named for the 38th President of The United States and is 1,107 feet long. The carrier has a crew of 5,500 when taking into account ship, aircrew and staff.
Expect at least a busy Friday and perhaps weekend in Downtown Halifax with the thousands of visiting sailors.
